Lessons for Life
Johnny Miller, a two-time major championship winner, was recently quoted about junior golf: “People often ask me why I’m so passionate about junior golf. I guess it’s because I realize the lifelong impact golf can have on young people. Golf teaches us a lot of life’s lessons in a fun, challenging atmosphere.”
We have the same passion. The Las Cruces Junior Golf Association is a professionally managed 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and runs three primary programs: instruction, competitions and playing access.
For an annual participation fee of $80, we have one of the best set of junior programs in the country. The affordability has introduced golf to many juniors that otherwise would not have had an opportunity. In our first year, 2009, over 50 juniors, the majority of our participants, were introduced to the game and this trend will continue. Teaching valuable life lessons are embedded in our programs.
Jack Nicklaus, asked about junior golf, once said: "A kid grows up a lot faster on the golf course. Golf teaches you how to behave."
A recent email to our executive director: “Hello Doug, I just wanted to let you know that your golf programs have made a huge impression on my son. And we have seen so much growth from him. Sincerely, a proud parent.”
Registration for our 2011 instruction program will begin in December and will be limited to the first 120 to register.
