Junior golf playing rates that we have negotiated are listed below for 2010.

Be sure to call a course in advance for a time.

Las Cruces Country Club 526-8731
Free after instruction any Saturday after 3pm. Any other day $2 after 3pm. Walking.

White Sands Golf Course 678-1759
Any day after 1pm walking $6 for 9 holes, $10 for 18 holes.

NMSU Golf Course 646-3219
Any day after 1pm walking $8 for 9 holes, $12.50 for 18 holes.

Sonoma Ranch Golf Course 521-1818
Sonoma is a cart course, no walking. A parent must accompany a junior to drive the cart.
Any day after 2pm for 18 holes, $18 cart fee for only the junior playing, parent driving the cart.
When parent and junior both play, the junior plays for free with a parent/adult green fee paid; call the course for specific adult rates as prices vary for 9 or 18 holes, days of the week and start times e.g. "twilight" rates.

Some yardage recommendations:

• juniors 6-8 years old, play par 4s from 150 yards, par 5s 250 yards, par 3s the most forward tee box available or 80-90 yards

• juniors 9-12 tears old, add 50 yards to the 6-10 yardages e.g. par 4s, 200 yards

• all courses have stakes and/or plates indicating 100, 150, 200 yards to the center of the green (and possibly 250 on par 5s)...find a flat area in the fairway by these markers and play the hole from there, juniors, especially beginners and younger players, will enjoy playing these yardages rather than from forward tee boxes, it helps them to learn how to score, is more fun and is faster, for the par 3s if the forward tees are too long or there is a long carry over water just try to find a spot to start from that will make it fun

• if juniors can not get out of bunkers (and please be sure to rake any bunkers they are in) or carry a water hazard just drop the ball out of the bunker or drop in front of the water hazard and continue

• juniors 13 and older, yardages will depend on ability, start at the most forward tee boxes, better players will move back i.e. play longer holes
